A clear plan when your website has been compromised

A hacked website can interrupt enquiries, damage confidence and leave unwanted pages in search results. I help small businesses across Sussex investigate what has happened, restore access and work through recovery. You deal directly with me, the person doing the technical work.

I explain the findings in plain English, agree priorities around your business and keep you informed about anything that needs your host’s involvement. The first step is an assessment of the site and the access available, followed by an agreed scope and budget.

Recognise the warning signs

  • Visitors are redirected to an unrelated website.
  • Google shows Japanese product listings or other pages you did not create.
  • Your host has suspended the website or quarantined files.
  • Your dashboard is inaccessible, or unfamiliar administrator accounts appear.
  • Pages contain unwanted adverts, links or scripts, or visitors see a security warning.

These symptoms need investigation. An access error or broken page can also have a non-malicious cause; I establish what the evidence supports before recommending a fix.

What my WordPress recovery work can include

Investigate and contain the problem

I review the symptoms, hosting notices, available logs, WordPress files and accounts. A copy of the affected site can preserve evidence before changes are made. We agree any temporary restrictions needed to protect visitors while the work takes place.

Remove identified malware and restore access

The work can include removing malicious files and content, replacing affected WordPress software from trusted sources and checking administrator access. A backup is only useful for restoration if there is reason to trust that it is clean; restoring an infected archive can put the same problem back.

Address search spam and check the business essentials

Where the compromise has created unwanted URLs or search warnings, I can help investigate those pages and plan the relevant Search Console follow-up. I also check the agreed essentials, such as service pages, enquiries and bookings. Google’s recrawling and review times are outside my control.

Explain what remains to be done

You receive a clear summary of the work, the checks completed and any limitations. Further actions may include replacing vulnerable software, securing accounts, reviewing hosting and establishing a maintenance routine. If the original entry point cannot be proved, I say so.

Hourly help, with a scope and budget agreed first

I charge hourly and agree an initial plan around your priorities, budget and the time available. The extent of a compromise varies, so I do not promise a fixed recovery time before looking at the evidence. If further work is needed, we discuss the scope and cost before proceeding.

Recovery does not require an ongoing maintenance contract. If you want continued support, we can agree a plan at the start of each month and adjust it as business needs change. There is no minimum term or notice period for that ongoing support.

WordPress security support and WordPress maintenance are available separately.

WordPress hack recovery questions

How quickly can you help?

I will confirm my availability when you enquire. Recovery time depends on the compromise, hosting access and usable backups. An urgent enquiry is not a booking or a guaranteed response time; I will explain what I can realistically take on.

Can you help without a backup?

Yes, I can assess the site. Recovery options depend on what remains intact and which files or content can be repaired or replaced. Some lost data may not be recoverable.

Can you guarantee the site will never be hacked again?

No. The aim is to address the identified compromise and reduce future risk. Updates, secure access and ongoing checks still matter after recovery.

Can you help with Japanese spam in Google?

Yes. The underlying website and unwanted URLs need investigation as well as any search-result clean-up. Removing a result from view does not remove malware, and improved rankings or immediate reindexing cannot be guaranteed.

Do I have to become a monthly client?

No. We can agree a recovery project on its own. Any ongoing support is a separate choice.
