BusinessCheck
Check the contact details that help customers reach you.
An old phone number in a footer, an email link that goes to the wrong address or a broken contact page can get in a customer’s way. BusinessCheck reviews business details across your website and shows the evidence behind contact-link problems and possible inconsistencies.
No account or subscription is required. Checks run in your browser, with access requested for the website you choose.
Do your contact links match?
Compare displayed phone numbers with their click-to-call destinations, and email addresses with their email links. UK +44 and local 0 formats are treated as equivalent.
Spot invalid destinations, contact details without clickable links and possible leftover template text.
Are details consistent?
Review phones, emails, business names in structured data and address candidates across pages. Add your own reference details if you know what should appear.
Find broken internal page links returning 404 or 410, with the pages that link to them.
How to use BusinessCheck
- Open the business website you want to check in Chrome.
- Click the BusinessCheck extension icon. Optionally enter the correct business name, phone, email or address as a reference.
- Choose a limit of up to 25, 50 or 100 pages, then click Check this website.
- Allow access to that website when Chrome asks. A report opens in a new tab and shows its coverage as the check progresses.
- Review link problems and items marked for review. Follow the source links to investigate, and export findings or contact details as CSV when useful.
A difference is a reason to check, not always a mistake
Branches, departments, registered offices and website credits can legitimately use different details. BusinessCheck separates link problems from review items so you can apply your knowledge of the business.
Without reference details, it checks consistency rather than deciding which information is correct. It does not verify who owns a phone number, whether an inbox receives email, or what appears in external business listings.
Install BusinessCheck in desktop Chrome
- Download the BusinessCheck ZIP and extract it into a folder you will keep on your computer.
- Type
chrome://extensionsinto Chrome’s address bar. - Turn on Developer mode, then choose Load unpacked.
- Select the extracted folder containing
manifest.json, not the ZIP itself. - Refresh any webpages already open. Pin the extension from Chrome’s Extensions menu if you want easier access.
Keep the extracted folder in place. See Chrome’s installation guidance. To update, replace the files in that folder, reload the extension in Chrome’s extensions manager and refresh the website.
What gets checked?
The starting tab is read as it appears in your browser. The extension then fetches linked public pages on the same website origin, without cookies and with a pause between requests. Contact, About and Privacy pages are prioritised.
The report shows pages read, failed pages and coverage. The check stops if the website requires verification or returns an access-denied or rate-limit response. Forms, action links, search URLs and files are not crawled.
Privacy and permissions
BusinessCheck does not use analytics, an account or a remote processing service. It makes requests to the website you choose so it can read linked pages; it is not an offline tool.
- Current tab and scripting: reads the rendered page after you start a check.
- Optional website access: requested for the selected site, to read its linked public pages. Permission remains until you remove it in Chrome’s extension settings.
- Session storage: keeps reports and optional reference details in Chrome’s in-memory session storage, cleared when the browser exits.
CSV downloads remain wherever you save them. Closing the report stops its current check; reopening it during the same browser session shows saved progress rather than restarting the scan.
Useful things to know
Is this a complete website audit?
No. It focuses on business contact information and internal page links. Unlinked pages, embedded frames, inaccessible areas and some address formats can be missed. Only the initial page is checked as rendered; details added by JavaScript on fetched pages may not be visible to the checker.
Why does the report say a page could not be checked?
A timeout, access restriction, verification page, unsupported response or server error can prevent a page from being read. Review the reason shown in the report. A page that could not be checked is not automatically a broken link.
What changed in version 1.0.1?
This release fixes false email mismatches caused by labels such as “Email us” being joined to an address below them. After updating, reload the extension and start a new check. Existing saved reports keep their original results.
